Everybody knows that cholesterol has much to do with heart disease. Do not worry too much about the dangers of high cholesterol. Knowing what cholesterol is and how it affects you will undoubtedly help you avoid high cholesterol. Cholesterol And Heart Disease Your blood cholesterol is a major factor in the risk of suffering from heart disease. Gilroy Ca. Garlic Festival

Posted by Leland March 30, 2010  |  Comments (20)

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend the Gilroy Garlic festival. This was the 28th annual festival and ran the weekend of July 28. The location of the festival is Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy. I have heard about this festival for many years and decided to accept the invitation from a friend to attend. I was one of approximately 123,000 people who attended the festival, sampling creations such as Garlic Ice Cream which I will admit I did not have the courage to even sample. I did try the garlic french fries and became an instant convert to this delicacy There is literally hundreds of Garlic dishes and relishes to sample or purchase at this festival. This festival has its own Queen of Garlic who is chosen by a panel of six judges based on her personal interview, talent, speech about garlic and evening gown. Her court is also chosen, for the purpose of representing Gilroy at various festivities. Other activities include the Great Garlic Cook-off, cooking demonstrations by noted celebrities from the...

In Los Angeles, scientists have found that 60 million gallons of ground water in the local watershed contain the environmentally harmful metal, chromium 6. The contamination is moving in the direction of the city s main drinking water supply and could pose a major health problem within 10 years. More than 50 percent of Pennsylvania s streams are polluted as a result of decades of coal mining operations. Drinking water in 39 of the state s 69 counties is affected. In many municipalities in the United States, the infrastructure that conveys and sanitizes water is deemed inadequate. Miles of underground pipes have been corroding due to age, allowing lead into drinking water. Water treatment plants that were built at the turn of the 20th century to filter out particles and destroy bacteria regularly fail to remove pesticides, chemicals and other harmful materials. Mercury, copper, chromium, arsenic, gasoline and ammonia-based perchlorate are showing up in increasing concentrations in the nation s water supply...
